I've loved and I've lost

Black faux fur gilet, guitar necklace & white collarless shirt: TOPSHOP | Black lace shorts & white round sunglasses: ASOS | Shoes: CONVERSE

I told you you could wear a faux fur gilet as part of a summer outfit!  And I bet you doubted me, pft...  Actually it was a little more wintery this morning as I had some tights on, but the sun soon came out so they went off, hellooo legs.  I bought this gilet a couple of weeks ago after trying to hunt one down for aaages, to I couldn't resist because I know I will wear it so much next season.  A great layering piece, imagine it over a leather jacket.  Yeah, totally made you want one now, right?  I think it would be such an investment for your wardrobe, and hello?  I have just shown you can wear it for any season, need I say more?  I was afraid this outfit would look a little too workwear-ish, but I wore my purple converse and my new favourite sunnies to give the look a bit of a fun twist.
The shirt and the shorts are quite old purchases.  I nearly decided to sell the shirt a few months ago but I am so glad I didn't, everyone needs a white shirt, right?  I received the shorts for Christmas and I have worn them a silly amount of times since, I think shorts are the perfect alternative to a skirt and I definitely need to get me some more pairs.
Thanks if you left a comment on yesterday's post encouraging me about university, I have had nothing buy support and love from my family, but the extra comment never goes amiss!  I am kind of excited as it means getting out of my crappy little town and hopefully means I will be able to find a part-time job, but at the same time it is without doubt the scariest thing I've ever done and I am going so far out of my comfort zone that I should be having a nervous breakdown, buuut there you go.  The next month will consist of me trying to get organised for a whole new life, so if you have any tips on what I'll need to take etc, please share!
Hope you're all having a nice weekend!

It's a brave new world

CAMO JACKET & DENIM SHIRT: TOPSHOP | LACE SHORTS: ASOS | SHOES: CONVERSE

What did I say the other day?  This jacket can be thrown over anything, ANYTHING, I TELL YOU.  Today I went for all of my go-to items - black shorts, denim shirt and Converse - and just chucked them all together to make one outfit (because it is that simple, ahem...).  A denim shirt is obviously a staple for your summer wardrobe but due to the lack of, erm, summer, I've had to make it work for autumn/winter looks, so this jacket was the perfect addition because it's an awesome layering piece.  They're both oversized and the shirt is lightweight and not tight (which I like) so the I teamed them with shorts to show a little leg (albeit under tights, not by choice, people...) in order to show I am under there, somewhere.
I know some people only wear shorts in the summer - sans tights - and although denim shorts are usually the popular option to wear with tights it's not one which I really choose.  I have a thing about wearing summery things, like denim shorts, with wintery things, like tights.  It's kind of like a man in socks and sandles, except maybe not as bad.  Don't get me wrong though, I do think some women can pull the look off but I just tend to stay away from it and buy shorts which are appropriate for all seasons.
I can't stop wearing these specific pair of Converse at the moment, I usually prefer the high-top style but I think I am beginning to change my mind.  I love them, they are just my perfect shoe (although I definitely would not say no to some Louboutins) and I would absolutely wear a pair them with my wedding dress, that's how strongly I feel that they can work with any outfit, (why don't I just get the wedding dress and marry the damn shoe?).
I am a bit better today but yesterday I was in quite a bad mood for the whole day and realised that night that it was because there was no Christian Grey in my life.  And I'm not even joking.  After reading 'Fifty Shades of Grey' for two days, NON STOP, only to get completely hooked on it, on a fictional person, I am NOT looking forward to finishing the trilogy.  I think I need therapy or something, do they have help groups for this kind of stuff?
I might be going to the movies tomorrow to see something about President Lincoln fighting vampires tomorrow, I really can't understand why people have put them two together to make a movie (I must have missed that history lesson?) but I've heard it's good, so what the hell.

It's a boy girl thing

BLACK BLAZER: H&M | LACE SHORTS: ASOS | DENIM SHIRT & LEOPARD PRINT SLIPPERS: TOPSHOP

Sometimes I feel like throwing a lace dress on or some pretty pastel colours, but I always like to add a little sumthin'-sumthin' to my outfits to give it a little edge.  Yes, I might wear bright pink jeans with an equally girlie floral shirt, but I'll always 'man it up' a bit with a pair of Converse and my sleeves rolled up.  I don't like to be too matchy-matchy.  I manned it up quite a lot with this look, as I intended, but I stayed away from the Converse and instead chose some flats, which are a little more ladylike, and bright red nails.  There's something about a suit - whether it's a trouser, short or skirt one - that makes your outfit say 'I'm not dressing for men, I'm dressing for me'.  Androgynous fashion is something which some women stay well away from, but I love it, I'd definitely be more drawn to a women dressed in an oversized shirt and a boyfriend blazer than a girl in a disty floral dress and ballet flats.  Basically if I saw Tilda Swinton and Taylor Swift walking down the street (it could happen...), I know who I would be looking at more.  I'm not saying being a girlie-girl is a bad thing, no no no, women have their own style and they know what they look good in, but there is something which I find SO EFFING COOL about Lisbeth Salander (or Rooney Mara) in 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' with her bleached eyebrows and dark eye make-up.
Perhaps I'm a closet lesbian... Maybe I should go and paint my nails or something.

I got sunshine in a bag

BLACK BLAZER: H&M | SPIKE NECKLACE: TOPSHOP | PLAN WHITE TEE: ZARA | BLACK LACE SHORTS (similar): ASOS | SHOES: CONVERSE

I have been wanting a summer short suit for, well, ever since seeing this picture of Elin Kling (one of my absolute favourite street style shots EVER) and since I would love a suit in a more summer-appropriate-colour than black, I just don't have the money so I had to make do with my blazer, which I seem to be wearing with everything these days, and these shorts which I also practically never take off.  I love how this outfit is different from the usual summery-outfits you see (denim shorts, maxi dresses etc etc) and yet is still kept quite season appropriate with the show of some a lot of leggage.  I do enjoy dressing up in the summer usuals, but I do really like changing it up a bit.  What about you, what is your summer go-to outfit?
The only teensy-weensy problem with the sun at the moment, well not with the sun but with me, so now whenever I am inside I get really frustrated because I'm not outside and making the most of it, but living in a not-exactly-exciting town (to put it nicely) and having no money, going for a walk seems like the only option, which is pretty damn rubbish.  If only I lived near a sandy beach or an outside pool... (I'm not asking for that much, am I..?) I love you England, but warmer countries really do have more to offer *sigh whinge moan sob huff*.  The idea of getting a bike for summer sounds really appealing ever since Robyn commented the on my post the other day that that's what she likes to do in summer, as bike rides are much more exciting than walking, so maybe I'll invest in one.  The chances of me actually saving up for a bike rather than putting it towards clothes shopping/a new camera are pretty slim though really, really slim so slim YOU CAN SEE THEIR BONES.  But we'll see.

Run DMC

BLAZER: H&M | TEE: TEE AND CAKE via TOPSHOP | LACE SHORTS: ASOS | LEOPARD PRINT SHOES: CONVERSE via OFFICE

This tee is definitely one of the oldest pieces of clothing that's in my wardrobe, and it's not even that old, really.  But it was a love at first sight thing so I'll probably never throw it away, although the cut-out detail probably won't be appropriate for my fifty year old self.
I received some ASOS mail this morning (yay!) containing a new LBD and some way-more-fluorescent-than-they-looked-in-the-picture pink jeans (booo).  I was going to send them back but discovered I can't as I tore apart the original packaging (me with a parcel is like a lion with a piece of meat) which it turns out I needed... Maybe I'll end up loving them, but I'm not so sure, they just remind me of desperate teenage girls years ago wearing tutus and leg-warmers in all sorts of fluorescent colours to attend a hardcore rave 'foam party', ew ew ew.

Short suit

BLAZER: H&M | TOP: TOPSHOP | SHORTS: ASOS | SHOES: CONVERSE

I am keeping it very simple today in my black & grey ensemble, however I do promise to be more colourful in my next outfit post.  I love the idea of a short suit, and I really want to try a pastel-coloured one in summer, but I can't find a cheap blazer anywhere, never mind with the matching shorts, so this black one (which were bought seperate so technically isn't even a suit) will have to suffice.  I think with the Converse this outfit slightly reflects the popular sporty trend this summer, but I'm dying to leap right in and purchase some hi-tops to team with more feminine pieces, like a denim dress?
My nails are in the nuddy today, I haven't really had time to paint them (read: forgot).  I am loving aqua blues at the moment but I haven't yet found a polish in the perfect colour.
