When you lose something you can't replace

'Oh my god I can't see WHAT IS HAPPENING?!'
Little black dress & floral spike headband: TOPSHOP | Shoes: CONVERSE

Nothing 'spices up' a little black dress more than a statemement accessory, so this floral crown was a pretty perfect choice.  I've been planning this outfit for a while but I've just had to wait for the sunshine to get a move on and show its face.  This headband is one of, if not the, most unique accessory which I own, after bagging it in the sale a few weeks ago.  I love love LOVE it.  I think it definitely is the focal point of the outfit, and I wouldn't have been satisfied had I left the house in just this dress and nothing else.  I think the spikes on the headband definitely toughen up a what-would-have-been-a-relatively-girlie outfit.  Plus the Converse make the outfit a bit more laid back, too.
I pinched this dress out of my mother's wardrobe a few months ago, knowing she would have bought it to go out in, never to wear it again.  Women, eh?  I really like the back of it because I don't miss any chance to show my back every now and again.  I can see from the very short length of it that it's obviously meant to be worn for going out in, but seeing as I'm not one to go out and get PROPER SMASHED... BRUV(?), I always have to adapt clothing to more daytime wear.  Misson accomplished, I think.  Maybe I will wear my new over-sized checkered shirt over it next.
I'm off to town later today because I have an appointment at my bank.  Don't hate me 'cause you ain't me.  I have done practically nothing for the past couple of months.  Am not complaining, but maybe I should do something to make the most of my last few weeks off.  I've been wanting to visist Chester Zoo, mainly for the dinosaur bit which they are showing for a limited time (I have no shame.), but I also really want to see some elephants, ever since I cried my eyes out the other night watching a documentary on an elephant called Echo and the extremes she went to to save her huge family.  I am now completely in awe of them and I think they are the most amazing creatures to live on this earth.  My dream would be to go to Africa at some point in my life and see them in their real environment.
Happy Tuesday!

When in doubt, throw on a denim shirt

Denim shirt & black skater dress: TOPSHOP | Shoes: CONVERSE

Oh hellooo little black dress we meet again, except I fear sometimes you can be a bit boring on your own, so I thought 'let's bring something else into our relationship for a bit of variety', which is where denim shirt came in.  It was an easy choice, really.  Denim shirt gets on with just about anyonething.
It's a simple item, but is undoubtedly timeless and a staple piece in anyone's wardrobe.  I love coming up with new ways to wear things and throwing on a denim shirt over a dress just seemed like an obvious option.  Not only a new way to wear the dress but also a new way to wear the shirt, result.  I haven't worn it unbuttoned before but I thought it gave the dress a nice masculine touch, especially with the slightly rolled up sleeves, but it could have easily been more 'girlie' if I had tied it at the waist, or even a little belt over the shirt would have been a nice addition.
So to sum up, if you haven't got a denim shirt, buy one.  Like, right now.  It’s a really versatile item once you’ve got your head around how to wear the item, both in a casual way and with more dressy pieces (like this dress).  And even now after owning mine for a few months I am still learning new ways to wear it.  It also makes a great layering piece for autumn/winter time, need I say more?!
I have nothing to report from my life lately, except that I have really been enjoying regular threesomes with two men called Ben and Jerry.  Don't hate me 'cause you ain't me.

Disturbia

Black jumper (similar), bow stocking tights, jewellery & gold body chain/harness: TOPSHOP |
Faux fur coat & little black dress: ASOS | Shoes: CONVERSE

I featured this body chain (which was bought in the sale) in my 'Topshop jewellery haul' this weekend and said it'd be a great way to add edge to any outfit, and here I am!  Ta-daaah.  I decided to wear it with an all-black outfit today, because what better way to dress up a little black dress than with some gold jewellery and red lipstick?  As seen on Chanel S/S '12 runway, I think these are already my favourite piece of jewellery to wear, they make a statement and they're unique, they add a cool factor to any simple outfit.  I only have this one but I just want to buy all the different ones I see.  They're not the easiest thing to put on ('Where on earth does my head go?') but I got there in the end.  I am all for making what-would-have-been-boring pieces a bit more interesting, so these are perfect!  I think this is one the times when 'less is more' doesn't apply, because there's no way this outfit would look equally as good with a thin gold necklace on, am I right, or am I right?  They're becoming more and more popular and you can even buy a chain for your leg.  Or how about a bra?  You're spoilt for choice, really!  What do you think, would you wear one?  I love a statement necklace, but these are a great alternative, I think.
P.S. I heard about the Rihanna and River Island collaboration the other day and I am SO excited for it!  You might have read last week my post on Rihanna being one of my style icons, so I am already saving up for it and planning to buy, er, EVERYthing.  I'm not usually a sucker for collaborations, but I'm already all over this one!

Tougher than a lion, ain't no need in tryin'...

CAMO JACKET & BLACK MESH DRESS: TOPSHOP | SHOES: CONVERSE

A simple outfit today but one which I still really like, I think all the items work really together.  This jacket is one of the newest additions to my wardrobe, and definitely one of my favourite items.  I've worn it a few times already but today I decided to go down the easies and most obvious route.  I introduce to you (although you've probably already heard of it): the little black dress.  They say every woman should own an LBD, I, however, own three.  And it's still growing, dun dun dunnn.
This dress is quite an important part of my wardrobe and probably something which I won't throw away even if it ever comes to a point when I don't wear it anymore.  This is because years ago, when I was happily skipping out of my tomboy comfort zone after realising the world of wearing dresses is a much more fun place to be, this was the first dress I bought.  And, as they say, the rest is history!  I decided on this specific one after being inspired by Rihanna in a similar (albeit a little more revealing) black mesh dress.  Although it might be a bit of a boring item to some, it was the perfect thing for me to buy when I was a 'beginner' in the fashion world, and I think the relatively subtle mesh panels definitely give it an interesting touch (and, you know, let's not pretend you can't see a bit of boobage...).
The jacket gives it a bit of an androgynous touch, which I always welcome to any outfit.  A woman complimented it and asked where it was from, and it's always nice when that happens!  The shoes offer the perfect amount of colour as well, a touch of red lipstick would have completed it nicely, but I stupidly put mine through the washing machine and now it's more pink than red, so I'll have to purchase a new one.
I have gone one step worse than yesterday and awoke at TWO today, Jesus Christ.  I went to sleep at half five after reading a book for a few hours (one does lead a crazy life), it's eventually going to reach the point where I just pull an all nighter, but hey ho there you go.
I watched 'The Dark Knight' the other day, 'watched' meaning I stared at the screen whilst asking questions.  The whole. Way. Through. (I am the worst person to watch a movie with).  Despite that I think Heath Ledger was absolutely amazing in it (I actually didn't recognise him from his role in '10 Things I Hate About You') and I will be seeing the new Batman film later this month.
Hope you've all had/are having a nice day!

Dressed in black

BLACK RIB PROM DRESS: TOPSHOP | BLACK BLAZER: H&M | SHOES: CONVERSE

I am not usually one to wear all black.  Don't get me wrong I have my fair share of little black dresses in my wardrobe, but I always feel a bit plain if all my outfit is the same colour.  I know some women are spotted in all black almost without fail and yet still end up pulling it off and looking insanely chic (Angelina Jolie, Kate Moss, Freja Beha, etc etc.) so I thought I'd have a go at it and I must say it wasn't too bad!  I thought it would look a little too formal if I went for equally black shoes, so I just teamed my outfit my a pair of Converse and a classic pair of wayfarer sunglasses to make it a little more fun, a little more me.  Forget looking boring, I just look badass (that's what I tell myself, anyway.)  I know it's summer here in England (although the weather is begging to differ), but sometimes it makes a nice change to stop doing the pastel thing for just one day.
Black is like that friend who we know we can always trust.  It is the most reliable colour which one can have in their wardrobe and, let's face it, it never lets us down.  Our little black whatevers are always there for us and make us look incredibly good looking (to quote Zoolander) for any type of occasion.  Although everyone knows that you can have too much of a good thing and thus end up looking a little, er, gothic, (i.e. not so much Angelina Jolie now, more in her days when she wore blood around her neck). If you pay attention to details in your black ensemble, like mixing textures and your silhouette, anyone can pull of this look!  I just think it's all about a little bit of creativity and a nice amount of confidence.  Thankfully this dress has a smaller waist and gives my shape instant definition and breaks my body up into distinct sections making the outfit look more pulled-together. Showing a little bit of skin is a sure way to stop looking boring, too.  Don't look like you're hiding it, look like you're flaunting it, I say. What do you think of wearing all black, maybe you stay well away?
I had my first proper day of my summer holidays yesterday and my brother says I'm already great at being a 'dosser' because I spent the first half of it watching Jeremy Kyle and Loose Women.  I have no shame!  I did get out of the house later on though and went to the, er, movies (that still counts, right?) to see 'Red Lights'.  As well as being slightly obsessed with Cillian Murphy, I thought it was a good film and I liked it more than I thought I would, awesome ending too!  I'm a bit of a movie fanatic at the moment, I'm debating whether to see Chernobyl Diaries but I'm terrible with scary movies and I'm still relatively scared of the dark at the age of eighteen, so perhaps I'll give that one a miss.
