Monochrome with a twist

White shirt, mixed sign necklace & cable knit hat: TOPSHOP |
Black coated skater skirt: RIVER ISLAND | Batman Converse: SCHUH

Quite a simple outfit for a simple day.  A white shirt and black skirt are both basic, key pieces but can be worn in so many different ways, you just have to put your own twist on them.  When I wear outfits like these, as soon as I put the items on, I start thinking 'Oh no I look like I'm going to work.  I can wear whatever the hell I want, and yet here I am, looking like I am going to work.', hence why I added the red lipstick.  And the statement necklace.  And the pom pom hat, to keep it casual rather than workwear.  And then I go a step further and put my really geeky/awesome Converse on.  After all that, you could have stuck a fork in me, I was done.  I did include my snood before I left the flat, but I took it off once I had got on the bus because I was too bloody hot.  Typical England, cold all summer and then when October hits it starts to get warm.
I haven't featured these shoes in an outfit post on the blog before as I've been wearing my new ASOS boots most of the time, but I do love these and feel like a big kid when I wear them.  A really, really cool big kid.  Everyone loves Batman, right?  I thought the necklace matched with the comic print quite nicely with its punctuation symbols.  The bold colours in them really helped to avoid the outfit from being boring.  I haven't made much of an effort with this look, though.  I've had a two hour day at uni, nice and easy, so I thought I'll just chuck whatever on.
I am really digging this knitted hat at the moment, too.  When I went home last weekend (I had it on for the whole time), my brother said he couldn't take me seriously in it and it looks like it doesn't fit my head (boys, eh?).  But as you can see, it's still firmly stuck on my head, my warm and very snug head, at that, and I now I just want to buy it in every colour available.  Hats are such great accessories for winter, they look great with any outfit, and these beanie style hats (condom head) give looks a grungy twist, and I love me some grunge, yo.
Anyway, hope you're all having a nice day!  I would tell you all to have a nice weekend but I have to keep reminding myself that it's Thursday, not Friday.  Thursdays are when I finish uni for the week, you see.  I'm not bragging, I promise.  Speaking of uni, I went to my first meeting yesterday with the fashion society, kind of an introduction to it, and ohmygoshhhhh the things which we're going to be doing sound uh-mazing.  They told us that we'll be going to the Clothes Show Live in Birmingham this December, as well as Pure London next year, which is a major fashion buying event.  It's also a possibility that we can go on some other ones, such as Bread & Butter in Berlin which looks INSANE.  I've never had the opportunity to go to anything like this, so am really excited for them.
And that's it for today guys, I haven't got much planned for the rest of the day, maybe a movie, some pizza and killing zombies on the new 'Resident Evil' game.  Sorted.

I'm going back to the start

Black fine knit jumper: ZARA |
Green khaki skater skirt, black coated bowling bag & black cross earrings: TOPSHOP |
Cross stretch bracelet, mixed grey snood & studded biker boots: ASOS

I didn't know I liked this outfit as much as I do until I looked at these photos, now I will wear it again.  And again.  And probably another time after that.  I don't think I'd ever use the word 'minimilistic' to describe my style, but as I've said time and time again, sometimes the most simplest of outfits are the best ones.  Am I right, or am I right?  The skirt and the earrings are new purchases, and if you count a month or so as 'new' too, then so is the bracelet.  And the snood.  Oh, and the shoes.
I really like this skirt and am glad I bought it when I was browsing Topshop the other day.  It was one of those items which was stuffed at the back of a rail on the bottom, hiding behind other clothes.  I very nearly didn't see it, and even when I did I walked past it.  But then something made me walk back, I think it was the fact that I keep buying new tops when I only have a few bottom pieces in my wardrobe.  Does anyone else do this, maybe you're the other way round?  Anyway, thanks me, for forcing me to buy this, as it will go with everything this season.  It also ticks off the military trend because of its colour, which is a look which I am definitely aiming for this winter.  I think that the flippy, skater style skirts are the most flattering on pretty much all body shapes, as they nip you in at the waist and also skim over your thighs if they are something which you don't want to be showing off.  Much more interesting than a plain bodycon skirt, anyway.
I based my look around this skirt which is why I went for all black.  Probably the safest option to go for, but that doesn't make it any less chic.  The snood was a last-minute addition although looking at these I actually prefer the outfit with it, it just adds that little something, you know?  The weather has been perfect autumn weather at the moment - sunny, no rain, cold enough so you can wear a jacket/jumper, but not so cold that you have to chuck a big massive coat over everything.  If it stayed like this until Summer, I'd be happy.  Winter fashion is the best, in my opinion, but it's no good if you have to hide all of outfits under a big coat.  Unless you have one hell of a winter coat, then it's okay.  I've still got to find mine for this year...
Hope you're all having a nice week!  I've got a day off tomorrow, good times.

Don’t you wanna feel my bones on your bones?

Skeleton top (Tee and Cake), black coated bowling bag & green pom-pom hat: TOPSHOP |
Black coated skater skirt: RIVER ISLAND | Chunky chain necklace: ASOS |
Shoes: CONVERSE

This top is one of my new purchases which I showed you guys yesterday in a haul post.  I have been wanting one like this for ages so I didn't really hesitate when I saw it.  After trying it on the next day (I'm not one to try on in shops, too much effort...) with jeans I thought it looked a bit too much like I was actually trying to dress up for Halloween, which isn't a great look.  I did like the top though, and I wanted to make a relationship with it work, hence why in the end I chose to team it with a skater skirt and a cable knit hat, to make it a little less scary and a little more casual.  Plus I think the chunky necklace helped, too.  After seeing these pictures I am glad that I stuck with the top, now, perhaps it is a little hard to pull off, but I always welcome a challenge.  And at least if I do need a Halloween outfit for the end of the month, I won't be short of one, right?
I've had a nice, chilled weekend at home.  I watched 'Snow White & the Hunstman' yesterday which was just as awesome as the first time (minus giant cinema screen experience), such a well made film and the cast is perrrrrfect for it.  Charlize Theron makes one amazing baddie.  I've watched 'The Dinosaur Project' today too, never heard of it?  Me neither, but it had me at the word 'Dinosaur', so yeah... I think I'm going to Chester Zoo next weekend as well which means I finally get to see the dinosaur exhibition there before it ends in November, OH YAY.  I am a geek about them, but that's okay.  Shamefully I've also had not one, but two Indian take-aways this weekend, which probably ISN'T okay... My metabolism, however, is doing mighty fine, thanks for asking.
Hope you've all had a good one!

Topshop haul

And a sneaky new DVD from hmv too.

Me?  Gone shopping?  Pah!
Heh...
In last Sunday's #bbloggers chat, the topic was what to do to overcome blogger's blog, and I tweeted that whenever I'm stuck for blogging ideas, I tend to just go shopping and then blog about my purchases (at least that's how I justfiy it).  What did I do on Tuesday?  Went Topshopping, of course (I hate to love you, 20% student discount).  Was I even stuck for blogging ideas?  Nah, I just wanted to go shopping.  And no joke, I went round the shop for at least half an hour picking up things and wouldn't even check the price tag.  Look where that lead me.  I am really happy with all of my purchases, though, so that makes them all worth it, right?
